They can be based on wired or wireless connections and are able to be configured in different network topologies. Networks are today essential to the business. They allow us to communicate more effectively, collaborate with colleagues and perform more efficiently. They also help with data security and accessibility.
Computer networking is a vast field that involves the creation of, maintenance, and design of communication networks. It is a combination of computer science, electrical engineering and telecommunications.
The Internet is the most well-known computer network, allowing billions of users to connect and share the same resources at the same time. The network uses a packet-switching model to guide data through an almost infinite number of possible pathways and connections. Each packet is comprised of information about control and data from the user. The control information contains address of the network that is used to connect to the source and destination, error detection codes and sequencing information. The payload is the data portion of a byte.
In a typical network, central servers store information and controls access for users to vital resources such as printers, photocopiers, and files. The server is secured by firewalls and a system of multifactor authentication to ensure that only authorized users can access the network. All the data is centralized on servers makes it easier for administrators to carry out regular backups of their data and implement strict security policies for networks. In addition, it enables employees to access corporate applications and services regardless of their locations, such as, video-calling and document-sharing software.
