As a field of study data science combines math and statistics, specialized algorithms and advanced analytics such as statistical research, machine learning and predictive modeling. The initial step of the data science process is collecting raw data using different methods and sources. These include spreadsheets, databases, applications program interfaces (API) along with videos and images. Preprocessing involves removing values, normalising or encoding numerical features and identifying patterns and trends and dividing the data into training and testing sets to evaluate models.
Data mining and identifying useful insights can be difficult due to various factors, including volume, speed and complexity.
